Holographic Foil Products & Services for Printers & Converters

Consumables:

We offer a full-line of holographic foils for printers including both security images and patterns and diffraction patterns for packaging and promotions.

We also design and offer specialty substrates for heat seal or pressure sensitive laminates and labels including tamper evident materials.

Because NovaVision has it's own manufacturing facility, we are able to perform initial hot stamping, embossing and other production trials at our facility at no cost to our customers. Send us the candidate substrate (with or without inks) and we will perform limited trials for hot stamping, embossing or thermal printing using our equipment and labor. After process trials, we communicate the process settings for subsequent trials at the printer’s location.

Printers are welcome to attend these trials at NovaVision; we also offer operator training at our facility.

NOTE: For all security foil applications, printers are required to provide documentation to NovaVision to substantiate they are authorized manufacturer’s for the products being produced.

Technical considerations in selecting a holographic foil:

• Image orientation on the foil roll (see Unwind Configuration Chart) - not required for diffraction foils.
• Adhesive compatibility of stock foils for the intended substrate.
• Method of application (platen/reciprocating press or rotary press).
• Use of foil registration system or foil conservation equipment.
• Final shape, size and detail of the transferred image.
• Core ID: typically1 inch or 3 inch ID cores.

Stock Diffraction Foil Patterns

Diffraction foils have a "rainbow" or patterned holographic effect, but do not contain any text or graphics. Since the optical effect of the diffraction pattern cannot be scanned or copied, many printers use diffraction foils with a custom engraved tool to create a low cost hologram on such products as tickets, bus passes, etc. Since diffraction foils are available to the general public, they only offer a minimal level of security.

Because NovaVision distributes diffraction foils from several foil companies, we are able to offer a broad selection of patterns, colors and adhesive chemistries.

Diffraction foils are typically sold in master rolls 24 inches wide x 5,000 LF (lineal feet). Foil is custom slit to customer specified widths.

Typical pricing for a master roll of Silver or Gold foil is $1.10 / MSI + freight. Smaller quantities may be available on some patterns, but at higher prices. Quantity discounts apply for orders of 4 or more master rolls.

Metallic colors (other than silver or gold) usually require a minimum order quantity of 4 master rolls (20,000 LF x 24 inches wide) and are priced at $1.25/MSI + freight.

Transparent diffraction patterns require a minimum order quantity of 2 master rolls (10,000 LF x 24 inches wide) and are priced at $1.85/MSI + freight.

Stock Foil Patterns

Security pattern foils feature random repeating text or graphics in the hologram and are sometimes referred to as "wallpaper" patterns.. NovaVision has several stock security patterns to choose from; some of the patterns are available in gold or silver foil.

Security foils are typically sold in master rolls of 24 inches wide x 5,000 lineal feet. Foil is custom slit to your specifications. Typical pricing varies from $2.00 / MSI to $4.00 / MSI depending on the pattern selected. Smaller quantities are available on some patterns, but at higher prices. Quantity discounts apply for orders of 4 or more master rolls.

Custom Holographic Foils -- Patterns and Registered Images

Custom holographic foils provide maximum security. Registered images are considered more secure due to the specialized application equipment required.

Custom foil is typically sold in master rolls of 24 inches wide x 5000 lineal feet. The minimum order quantity is 1 master roll. Foil is custom slit to your specifications.

A typical master roll (24" wide x 5000 LF) typically yields about 1.2 million registered images (.75" square) or 1.7 million patterned images (.75" square).

Due to the initial higher production set up cost, we recommend purchasing at least one year’s supply of images.

Chromium holograms are available as an option; higher prices and higher minimum order quantities apply.

NovaVision has the ability to apply registered holograms to blank or pre-printed substrates. Many printers prefer this service rather than invest in costly process equipment for low volume applications.
