The new ISO 17712:2010 standard for bolt seals is effective on March 1, 2012. The new guideline requires bolts with a minimum diameter of 8mm and other enhanced construction details, which improve security.

Our Premium MS-B5 series bolt seals (8 mm diameter) meets the ISO 17712:2010 standard for High Security. Because the new bolt seal standard offers improved security performance, we recommend this product for shipments which cross international borders.

Our Standard bolt seals (7 mm diameter) only comply with the prior ISO standard (ISO 17712:2006) for High Security. Some customers are still using this product for domestic shipments or applications where security needs are lower.

All of our bolt seals are produced in C-TPAT facilities.

All seals have unique serial numbers; record the serial number for added security.

Bolt seals are offered in multiple colors, which allows for color coding.

All of our bolt seals include an 'anti-spin' feature, which provides added security to prevent un-authorized entry.

All of our bolt seals have a longer operational length which provides added clearance (and convenience) for bolt cutter access to cut the bolt for removal.

Customized bolt seals provide added security. The stock bolt seals (red, blue, yellow) can be customized by imprinting the bolt only. Or we have yellow bolt seals which can be customized on the bolt and barrel.

For added security, if the container/trailer has two hinged doors (each with a keeper bar and hasp), secure both doors with a bolt seal on each door.

For added security on trailer doors, other options include:

- Navaloop BC-03 (shown on this page): a combination bolt seal and cable seal which can secure both doors. The cable provides added security by wrapping it around the keeper bars on the doors. . Then install the connecting bolt in one of the door latches or hasps.

- Cable Seals: available in larger diameters and longer lengths to wrap around the keeper bars on the doors. Sometimes used in addition to or as a substitute for a bolt seal.

- Cargo Door Labels: tamper evident labels which are affixed to the doors to span the door seams. Usually used in addition to a bolt seal.

- Barrier Seals: Heavy duty metal brackets which latch the two doors together. Usually used as a substitute for a bolt seal.

1. Insert the bolt in the latch hole.
   
   
2. Before locking...
   
   a. Rotate the locking mechanism and bolt until the matching serial numbers are visible and aligned on the same side.
   
   b. Align the square end of the bolt to fit into the square hole in the lock. Loosely insert the bolt into the lock to assure proper alignment. Any misalignment will make it more difficult to lock.
   
   
3. Push the bolt into the locking barrel until the locking mechanism snaps.
   
   
4. Pull on the bolt & barrel to confirm the locking mechanism is fully engaged.
   
   
5. A bolt cutter is required to remove the bolt seal. Wear safety glasses when removing.

The maximum latch hole size is shown in the specifications. For larger hole openings, add heavy duty metallic washers (with minimum .4 inch diameter hole) on one or both ends of the bolt seal. The outside diameter of the washer should be at least .25 inch larger than the latch opening.

Before engaging the locking mechanism, confirm there will be ample room to remove the bolt with a bolt cutter.
