Which thermal printer is right for your job?

Several factors should be considered before buying your own barcode labeling printing system. The primary factor is quantity of material printed - how many labels will you need to print in a given day? Other factors include the type of label material used (rolls, fan-folded packs, or sheets), PC accessibility and printer footprint size.

Equipment is rated based on typical quantities (units = lineal inches of printed material):

Light duty desktop usage (up to 1,000 inches per day)
Light duty industrial usage (up to 25,000 inches per day)
Medium duty industrial usage (up to 100,000 inches per day)
Heavy duty industrial usage (up to 250,000 inches per day)

The typical printing system requires a dedicated PC computer (Windows 95 or higher), which you supply.

Once you have your PC, Thermal Images offers several Printer Packages with everything else you need to get started -- including the printer, power cord/power supply, software, connecting cables and a “starter set” of premium wax ribbons and premium paper labels. All printer packages include free technical support for 90 days via phone, fax or email.

Falcon 4 Printer Package - Small / Medium Industrial - $2,575

No attached PC required! The Falcon 4 printer has a revolutionary design - since the Falcon’s internal memory is capable of storing up to 4 standard label formats, it eliminates the need for a dedicated computer to print labels. A PC is only required when the printer is initialized to set up the standard label formats.

This printer is ideal in factory environments that are not PC friendly. Software is loaded into a PC where label formats are created and stored. Once created, the label formats are then downloaded via USB, Parallel, or Serial connection into the printer “memory”. Labels can be created with text, barcodes, graphics and “when printed” fields that allow for simple field changes at print time. A standard PC keyboard is used to access label formats and input information into the “when printed” fields. The Falcon 4 comes with a real time clock, a large backlit LCD and will print at 200 dpi, speeds up to 6 inches per second and holds full size ribbons and labels (diameters of rolls up to 8 inch).

The TEC B-SX5 can print labels up to 5” wide. The B-SX5 is a printer work horse and features stainless steel construction, print resolution of 305 dpi and print speeds of up to 8 inches per second. TEC B572 "Refurbished" Barcode Printer

The TEC B572 (shown with optional cutter) is our best value for an industrial printer, which can print labels up to 5” wide. The B572 is a printer work horse and features stainless steel construction, print resolution of 305 dpi and print speeds of up to 8 inches per second. Internal mechanisms have been “refurbished” and a new print head installed. The printer must be connected to a PC via serial connection.

Avery Dennison TDI Printer Package - Single Tag Printer - $9,485
(without power stacker)

The TDI printer prints sheets (instead of rolls) of material up to .018” thick. It is a near-edge printer that prints at 300 dpi resolution and speeds up to 10 inches per second. The printhead pressure can be adjusted to maintain imprint quality in applications ranging from small brand-image garment tags to thicker, heavier blister-pack cards. Acceptable stock sizes range from single tags as small as 1.2" x 4.1", to tags strips and cards as large as 6" x 13.8" overall size. The software is full featured, single-user software able to print text, barcodes, graphics, paragraphs, pull from databases and much, much more.
